Your privacy matters to us. This Policy explains what personal information FinancialEdu Inc. collects, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and your rights as a user. Please read it carefully — especially Section 4 if you are under 13 or are the parent or guardian of a child who uses FinEdu.

1. Who We Are

FinancialEdu Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") is a C Corporation and the developer and operator of the FinEdu financial literacy application and website (the "Service"). We are the data controller for personal information collected through the Service.

  • Privacy & Legal Inquiries: info@thefinedu.com
  • Support & Account Issues: support@thefinedu.com
  • Website: www.thefinedu.com

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you register or use the Service, you may provide:

  • Full legal name — collected at registration for account identification;
  • Email address — required for account creation, login, transactional messages, and notifications;
  • Phone number — collected at registration and used for account security (e.g., two-factor authentication if enabled) and optional SMS notifications;
  • Date of birth — required to verify age eligibility and determine which privacy protections apply to your account;
  • Onboarding assessment responses — answers to the 15-question pretest used to set your personalized news complexity level; and
  • Financial data entered into tools — data you voluntarily enter into the Budget Planner, Paycheck Calculator, or other financial tools. Where technically feasible, this data is processed locally on your device. If you choose to save results to your account, that data is stored on our servers as described in this Policy.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you access or use the Service, we automatically collect:

  • Device information: device type, model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers (IDFA on iOS; Android Advertising ID on Android);
  • IP address and approximate location: we derive your country and state from your IP address for compliance and content purposes — we do not collect precise GPS location without your explicit consent;
  • Usage and analytics data: features accessed, modules completed, quiz scores, time spent, navigation paths, button interactions, and session duration;
  • Diagnostic data: error reports, crash logs, request timestamps, and performance metrics; and
  • Ad interaction data (free tier users): whether an ad was displayed, whether a rewarded video was initiated, and general ad performance metrics.

2.3 Information from Third-Party Services

We receive limited data from the following integrated services:

  • Google Firebase — app performance, crash reports, and push notification delivery status;
  • Mixpanel — anonymized user behavior analytics (feature events, funnel data);
  • Google AdMob — ad performance data for free tier users (we do not share your name, email, or financial data with AdMob);
  • Apple / Google Play — subscription status and purchase confirmations (we do not receive your full payment card details); and
  • Finlight — financial news article content (we receive content from Finlight but do not share your personal data with Finlight).

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create, authenticate, and maintain your account;
  • Deliver, personalize, and improve the Service, including matching content to your assessed learning level;
  • Process payments, manage subscriptions, and handle billing matters;
  • Send transactional communications — account confirmations, password resets, subscription receipts, and security alerts;
  • Send push notifications — streak reminders, Wads of Cash refill alerts, and learning nudges (you may opt out at any time via device settings);
  • Send marketing emails about new features and promotions (you may opt out at any time — see Section 9);
  • Serve advertisements to free tier users via Google AdMob (users under 18 receive non-personalized ads only);
  • Conduct analytics to understand product usage and improve features;
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and illegal activity;
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations including COPPA, FERPA, CCPA, and others; and
  • Provide authorized institutional administrators with student learning progress data through the admin dashboard.

4. Children's Privacy — COPPA Compliance

This Section is the most legally significant part of this Privacy Policy. FinEdu operates in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 15 U.S.C. § 6501 et seq., and the COPPA Rule, 16 C.F.R. Part 312.

4.1 Users Under 13 — Verifiable Parental Consent

FinEdu may permit users under the age of 13 to use the Service only after we receive verifiable parental consent (VPC). Our process:

  • A parent or legal guardian must complete our parental consent flow before the child's account is activated;
  • We collect the consenting parent or guardian's name, email address, and consent confirmation — not the child's email;
  • We use a consent method designed to reasonably ensure the consenting person is the child's actual parent or legal guardian;
  • Before consent is given, the parent or guardian receives a complete description of what information we collect from the child and how it is used;
  • After consent is given, the parent or guardian may at any time: (a) review all personal information we have collected from their child; (b) direct us to delete that information and the child's account; and (c) refuse further collection or use of their child's information;
  • Consent may be revoked at any time by contacting info@thefinedu.com with the subject line "Parental Consent Revocation"; and
  • We will not condition a child's participation in the Service on providing more personal information than is reasonably necessary to use the Service.

4.2 What We Collect from Children Under 13

For users under 13, we collect only the minimum information necessary to operate the Service:

  • Display name or username (real legal name is not required);
  • Parent or guardian's email address (not the child's);
  • Date of birth (to confirm eligibility);
  • Device identifiers (for analytics, configured for minimal collection); and
  • Learning progress, quiz scores, and module completion data.

We do not collect the following from users under 13 without specific additional parental consent:

  • Phone number;
  • Precise geolocation;
  • Real full legal name; or
  • Any data used for interest-based or behavioral advertising.

4.3 Advertising to Users Under 13

We do not serve behavioral or interest-based advertising to users under 13. Any ads shown to users under 13 will be non-personalized contextual ads only, fully compliant with COPPA and Google's Families Policy for child-directed apps.

4.4 Additional Protections for Users Ages 13–17

For users between the ages of 13 and 17, we apply the following additional protections:

  • We do not sell their personal information;
  • We do not use their data for behavioral profiling or targeted advertising;
  • Push notifications are limited to Service-related content — no promotional or sponsored push messages;
  • AdMob is configured to serve non-personalized ads only for all users under 18; and
  • Parents or guardians of users ages 13–17 may contact info@thefinedu.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's account data.

4.5 Parental Rights Summary

Parents and legal guardians have the right to:

  • Review all personal information we have collected from their child;
  • Request correction of any inaccurate information;
  • Request deletion of their child's account and all associated personal data;
  • Refuse further collection or use of their child's information; and
  • Revoke consent at any time without penalty to any prior use.

To exercise any of these rights, contact: info@thefinedu.com with subject line "Parental Rights Request."

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below.

5.1 Service Providers

We share data with vendors that help us operate and improve the Service:

  • Google LLC — Firebase (analytics, push notifications, crash reporting), AdMob (free tier advertising), Gemini AI (FinAI chatbot);
  • Mixpanel, Inc. — user behavior analytics;
  • Stripe, Inc. — web payment processing;
  • Apple Inc. / Google LLC — mobile subscription and in-app purchase management;
  • Finlight — financial news data delivery;
  • Sentry — error monitoring and crash reporting; and
  • SendGrid (Twilio) — transactional email delivery.

All service providers are contractually required to use your data only as directed by us and in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy.

5.2 Institutional Accounts

FinEdu's institutional plans serve schools, businesses, credit unions, nonprofit organizations, and other entities. The data practices in this section apply to all institutional account types.

5.2.1 Data Visible to Institutional Administrators

If you join FinEdu through an institutional course code, the following information will be visible to that institution's authorized administrators:

  • Your display name or username;
  • Modules and topics completed;
  • Quiz scores and pass/fail outcomes;
  • Time spent on assigned content;
  • Overall course completion percentage; and
  • Last login date and engagement status (Standard and Professional plans).

5.2.2 Institutional Data Ownership

As between FinancialEdu Inc. and the institution, the institution retains ownership of all student, employee, and participant data entered into the platform. FinancialEdu Inc. acts as a data processor on behalf of the institution for this data.

5.2.3 Corporate and HR Accounts

Companies using FinEdu as an employee financial wellness benefit operate under the same institutional data practices. Employee completion data, quiz scores, and engagement metrics are visible to HR administrators through the admin dashboard.

5.2.4 Nonprofit Accounts

Nonprofit organizations follow the same institutional data practices as schools. We do not use participant data from nonprofit accounts for advertising or commercial profiling.

5.2.5 Post-Cancellation Data Access

Upon cancellation of a paid institutional account, the institution retains read-only access to its account data for 90 days following the cancellation effective date. After this period, all institutional data is deleted. FinancialEdu Inc. will send a reminder notice 14 days before the export window closes.

5.3 Legal Compliance & Safety

We may disclose your information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with applicable law or legal process; (b) respond to a valid subpoena, court order, or government request; or (c) protect the rights, property, or safety of FinancialEdu Inc., our users, or the public.

5.4 Business Transfers

If FinancialEdu Inc. undergoes a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of substantially all of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide at least 30 days' advance notice before your data becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

6. Advertising & Analytics

6.1 Free Tier Advertising (AdMob)

Free tier users are shown ads served by Google AdMob. We configure AdMob as follows:

  • Users under 18: non-personalized ads only — no interest-based or behavioral targeting;
  • Users 18 and over: personalized ads based on general device and usage signals — no financial data, name, or email is shared with AdMob; and
  • Rewarded video ads (voluntarily watched in exchange for Wads of Cash refills) are available to all tiers.

To limit ad personalization: iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking; Android: Settings > Google > Ads; or upgrade to FinEdu Premium.

6.2 Analytics (Firebase & Mixpanel)

We use Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel to understand how users interact with the Service. These tools collect anonymized event data. We do not share individually identifiable analytics data with third parties for their own advertising purposes.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and meet our legal obligations:

  • Account data (name, email, phone, date of birth): retained while your account is active and for 90 days following a confirmed deletion request, then deleted or anonymized;
  • Learning progress and quiz data: retained while your account is active; deleted upon account deletion;
  • Financial tool inputs saved to your account: deleted upon account deletion or upon your request;
  • Usage and analytics data: retained for up to 24 months, then anonymized or deleted;
  • Payment and transaction records: retained for 7 years as required by U.S. tax law;
  • Parental consent records (for users under 13): retained while the child's account is active;
  • Crash logs and error reports: retained for 90 days;
  • Server log data: retained for up to 12 months; and
  • Institutional Data (upon account cancellation): read-only export access for 90 days post-cancellation, then deleted or anonymized.

8. Data Security

We implement the following technical and organizational security measures:

  • All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS);
  • Sensitive account data is encrypted at rest;
  • Access to user data within our organization is restricted on a need-to-know basis with role-based access controls;
  • Sentry provides real-time error monitoring;
  • We do not store full payment card numbers — processing is handled by Apple, Google, and Stripe; and
  • We conduct periodic reviews of our security practices.

No transmission or storage method is completely secure. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights or freedoms, we will notify affected users and applicable authorities as required by law.

9. Your Rights & Choices

10. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

The FinEdu website uses cookies. The mobile app uses device identifiers (IDFA/AAID) for equivalent purposes. Categories used:

  • Essential / Functional: authentication tokens, session state, and security — cannot be disabled without impairing core functionality;
  • Analytics: Firebase and Mixpanel collect anonymized behavioral data — can be limited via device OS ad tracking settings; and
  • Advertising (free tier): AdMob uses device identifiers to serve and measure ads — users under 18 receive non-personalized configurations.

11. International Data Transfers

FinancialEdu Inc. is based in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your personal information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. For European users, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for cross-border data transfers where required by GDPR.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document;
  • Display a prominent in-app notice for at least 14 days; and
  • Send an email notification to registered users for significant changes.

For changes affecting users under 13, we will obtain fresh parental consent where required by COPPA. Continued use of the Service after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
